The border between wild nature and the beauty that enters you — between horses and golf
If there is a place in the world where light seems to have a personality of its own, where time slows down to become gesture, breath and memory, that is it. Hov Gård.
Here, on the island of Gimsøy, one of the most authentic and uncontaminated of the Lofoten archipelago, we found a corner that is all nature, precious silence and care of the senses.
Nestled between a white-sand beach that touches the ocean and the solemn profile of Mount Hoven, this ancient Norwegian farm preserves the philosophy of those who have lived and loved these remote lands for generations: be present, be true, be simple.
A place that is not “visited”: it is lived.
Our trip: a three-day summer interlude amidst light, horses, and greenery.
The experience at Hov Gård It is part of a trip we took in the month of August in the Lofoten Islands.
In this context, our stay at Hov Gård represented a three-day parenthesis, where the Northern Light was not just a natural phenomenon, but a constant presence capable of transforming everything. We arrived attracted by a rare combination— horses and golf —perfect for our family: my daughter loves horses, my husband loves golf. And as often happens when dreams meet in the right place, we found much more than we imagined.
The farm and the horses: real nature, without filters
Hov Gård is a farm where nothing is spectacular, but everything is authentic.
Icelandic horses—sturdy, elegant, and sure-footed—live on the great plain that hugs the beach and the sea. Some run free, others accompany guests on horseback. spectacular walks along the coast or towards the paths that gently climb between hills and windswept meadows.
There is something deeply moving about seeing these animals move across such a vast landscape: it is like witnessing an ancient part of the world that is still breathing.
Låven: a simple, sincere, surprising restaurant
At the heart of farm life is the restored barn, now transformed into a restaurant The barn: an informal, warm, essential place, where every detail speaks of attention and respect.
Le large windows They frame a view that changes from hour to hour—sea, sand, slow-moving clouds—while the large fireplace warms the atmosphere.
The cuisine is Nordic and contemporary, crafted with local ingredients and enriched by the chefs' international experience. Clean dishes, meticulous presentation, and flavors that balance tradition and creativity. A beauty that's never ostentatious, always restrained.
Lofoten Links: A golf course suspended between sky and ocean
A few minutes from the farm, the Lofoten Links It's one of those golf courses you never forget.
A path exclusive links Surrounded only by sea, wind, and light. Fairways that follow the coastline, greens overlooking distant waves, profound silences that amplify every move.
Playing here in August, with the sun barely touching the horizon, is an almost meditative experience: a meeting of concentration, nature, and freedom.
Lodges overlooking the sea: the luxury of simplicity
We stayed in the panoramic lodges dotting the hillside above the beach. New, basic buildings, immersed in nature yet equipped with every comfort. The distance between each lodge ensures absolute privacy , while the windows let in only light, silence, and the ocean.
For everything you need—from breakfast to dinner—you can rely on the farm, in a perfect balance between independence and hospitality.
Because this place speaks to our philosophy
Hov Gård is a place where beauty is not something you have to look for: it happens.
It happens in the quiet of the summer light, in the pace of horses on the sand, in the slow gesture of a carefully prepared meal, in the essential perfection of a fairway that meets the sea.
It is a place for those who love nature but also beauty, for those who seek simplicity, authenticity and harmony , for those who feel that true luxury is made of details that have no need for noise.
A place we wholeheartedly recommend to those who, like us, love to live experiences that leave a mark—light, but indelible.
